उद्धव ठाकरे विरुद्ध एकनाथ शिंदे गटात सुरु असलेल्या 'खरी शिवसेना कोणाची' वादावर भारतीय निवडणूक आयोगानं शुक्रवारी त्यांचा निर्णय सुनावला आणि मुख्यमंत्री एकनाथ शिंदे यांच्या गटाला शिवसेना पक्षाचं नाव आणि धनुष्यबाणाचं चिन्ह देण्यात आलं आहे. उद्धव ठाकरेंनी २०१८ साली शिवसेनेच्या मूळ घटनेत केलेले बदल आणि शिंदे गटाकडचं प्रातिनिधिक बहुमत या मुद्द्यांच्या आधारावर हा निर्णय घेतल्याचं आयोगानं याविषयी जारी केलेल्या आदेशातून समजतं. काय सांगतो हा आदेश?

आयआयटी मुंबईमध्ये गेल्या आठवड्यात दर्शन सोलंकी या विद्यार्थ्याच्या आत्महत्येनंतर देशातील अग्रगण्य शैक्षणिक संस्थांमधील जातीयवादी भेदभावाचा विषय पुन्हा एकदा समोर आला आहे. दर्शननं आत्महत्या त्याच्याबरोबर जातीय भेदभाव झाल्यामुळं केल्याचा आरोप त्याच्या घरच्यांनी केला आहे. मात्र दर्शनच्या आत्महत्येचं कारण जातीयभेदभाव असण्याशी शक्यता संस्थेनं नाकारली आहे.

Reservation is a weapon of social justice, not poverty alleviation
When the discussion of casteism, communal violence and caste discrimination starts in our country, it reaches reservation and finally, the historical oppression of such a large deprived section of the people disappears from the discussion. An attempt is made to prove that all are equal by giving examples of some Dalits occupying high positions. A big discussion is being deliberately spread in society that the basis of the reservation should be financial so that all the needy can get its benefit.

Even after 75 years of independence, Dalits are subjected to atrocities in the country. Nine-year-old Indra, a fifth-grader from Rajasthan, was born into a caste family in a marginalised Dalit community and was punished for this 'crime'. He succumbed to his injuries just two days before independence day, however, found no mention in the Prime Minister's speech. Over 1.3 lakh cases of atrocities against Dalits were reported in the country during the year 2018-2020.

कोकणात पारंपरिक भात शेती म्हणजे कौल तोडणी, दाढ तनवणी, माती लावणे, भाजवळ मग पेरणी-भात लावणी, अशी किचकट पद्धती शेतीची. 'कोकणात भाजवळी शिवाय काही उगवत नाही' ही अंधश्रद्धा जोपासून शेती अजून होते. पारंपरिक किचकट शेती पद्धतीतून कोकणातील शेतकऱ्यांना बाहेर काढलं तरचं, इथे पुन्हा नवीन वर्ग शेतीकडे वळेल. भात शेतीसाठी सहज-सोप्प्या, शाश्वत मार्गाची गरज आहे.

People living under the notion that an oppressed community like the queer community will accept every digression, every difference, with open arms are in for a rude shock. पुणे इंटरनॅशनल फिल्म फेस्टिव्हलच्या तिसऱ्या दिवशी गजेंद्र अहिरे दिग्दर्शित गोदाकाठ या चित्रपटाचं स्क्रीनिंग पार पडलं. यंदाच्या मराठी चित्रपटांच्या पिफमधील चित्रपटांपैकी हा एक चित्रपट. प्रिती (मृण्मयी गोडबोले) या शहरातल्या, आयटी सेक्टरमध्ये उच्च पदी काम करणाऱ्या आणि स्पर्धेच्या जगात धावता धावता, अनेक ठेचांचा मार खाऊन आयुष्य संपवून टाकण्याच्या निर्णयापर्यंत पोहोचलेल्या तिशीतल्या एका तरुणीची ही गोष्ट.

‘टेड लॅसो’: दिलासादायक पलायनवाद
गेल्या काही काळातील अनेक लोकप्रिय कलाकृतींमध्ये दोषैकवृत्ती आणि निराशावाद दिसून येतो. चित्रपट, मालिका आणि अगदी बातम्यांमधून सातत्याने दिसणारा गडद आशय आणि नकारात्मकता एका ठरावीक टप्प्यानंतर उबग आणणारी बनू शकते. मग, असा प्रश्न उपस्थित झाल्यानंतर त्याचं उत्तर म्हणून ‘टेड लॅसो’ सारख्या मालिका समोर येतात.

‘द किड डिटेक्टिव्ह’: प्रसिद्धीच्या सावलीचं प्रभावी विडंबन
‘चाइल्ड प्रॉडिजी’ ही संज्ञा अनेकांनी यापूर्वी ऐकली असेल. ही संकल्पना म्हणजे अल्पवयात असामान्य बुद्धीचातुर्य दाखवणारी आणि प्रौढांनाही मागे टाकणारी कामगिरी करणाऱ्या व्यक्ती. सहसा अशी मुलं आपल्या आयुष्यातील पुढील टप्प्यातही उत्तम कामगिरी करतात. मात्र, लहान वयात विलक्षण प्रतिभा बाळगणारी सगळीच मुलं आयुष्यात यशस्वी होतीलच असे नसते.

गणेशवाडी हे कोल्हापूर जिल्ह्यातील करवीर तालुक्यात असलेलं साधारण ४,००० लोकवस्तीचं गांव. या गावातले नामदेव यादव हे एका शाळेमध्ये शिक्षक म्हणून काम करायचे. नोकरीवेळी शाळेमधली वेगवेगळी कामं करत असताना त्यांना हे जाणवू लागलं की या भागातील आपल्या विद्यार्थ्यांना पुस्तकाबाहेरचंदेखील शिक्षण देण्याची गरज आहे. २००८ पासून नामदेव यादव गावात स्वतःची शाळा चालवतायत.

चित्रपट रसिकांनी ‘मॅन्डी’सारख्या (२०१८) सूडपटांमध्ये निकलस केजला त्याच्या हिंसक अवतारात पाहिलेलं आहे. त्यामुळे या पारंपरिक सूडपटांहून वेगळा मार्ग अवलंबणाऱ्या या चित्रपटात केजला त्याच्या काही उत्कृष्ट भूमिकांमध्ये मोडणारी कामगिरी करताना पाहणे नक्कीच सुखद आहे.

अफगाणिस्तानमध्ये सैन्याच्या एका तुकडीबरोबर काम करत असताना तालीबानींनी केलेल्या हल्ल्यात फोटोजर्नलीस्ट दानिश सिद्दिकी यांचा मृत्यू झाला. याच निमित्तानं ‘एम्बेडेड पत्रकारिता’ ही संज्ञा सर्वांसमोर आली. अफगाणिस्तान सैन्यासोबत 'एम्बेडेड' असणं म्हणजे काय हे माहित नसल्यामुळं त्याविषयी कट्टरवाद्यांकडून इंटरनेट आणि उपलब्ध माध्यमातून ट्रोलिंगही सुरु झालं.

रोजच्या दैनंदिन जीवनात आपण सर्व विविध हक्कांची चर्चा करतो. त्यात मतदानाचा हक्क, अभिव्यक्तीचा हक्क ते जीवनाचा हक्क समाविष्ट असतो. पण आपण ज्या शहरात राहतो त्या शहरावर आपला हक्क असतो का? तर अर्थात हो. प्रत्येक रहिवाश्याचा तो ज्या शहरात राबतो, कष्ट करतो, राहतो, वावरतो त्या शहरावर हक्क असतो.

झोपडपट्टी म्हटले की समोर येतो स्लम डॉग मिलेनियार, काला किंवा गली बॉय. आपल्या देशात तर झोपडपट्टी हे पर्यटनाचे स्थान झालंय. दिल्लीत कठपुतली कॉलनीत गरिबांना उठवलं गेलं, अहमदाबाद मध्ये भिंत बांधली गेली, पुण्यात वस्ती उध्वस्त करण्यात आली अशा एक नाही तर अनेक घटना गेल्या तीन दशकात घडल्या.

‘जून’: बिटरस्वीट समकालीनत्व
आपल्याकडे खूप साऱ्या घडामोडी, प्रसंग घडणाऱ्या चित्रपटांचे प्रस्थ आहे. ज्यात अनेकदा एकामागून एक प्रसंग घडत राहतात आणि शेवटी काहीच हाती लागत नाही. मात्र, काही सिनेमे या रूढ प्रकाराला छेद देणारे असतात. सुहृद गोडबोले आणि वैभव खिस्ती यांनी सह-दिग्दर्शित केलेला (तसेच दोघांचे दिग्दर्शकीय पदार्पण असलेला) ‘जून’ अशाच चित्रपटांमध्ये मोडतो.

सामाजिक शास्त्रात राज्यशास्त्र आणि अर्थशास्त्र हे महत्वाचे विषय मानले जातात, तर समाजशास्त्राला ह्या उतरंडीत शेवटचं स्थान असतं. समाजशास्त्र आणि त्याचं महत्व ह्याविषयी अनभिज्ञ असणाऱ्या जनमानसात मग साहजिकच समाजशास्त्रज्ञ नक्की काय काम करतात ह्याविषयी फार जागरूकता असलेली दिसत नाही, आणि ह्या उदासीनतेची कारणं आपल्याला समाजशास्त्र ह्या विद्याशाखेच्या स्वरुप आणि जडणघडण ह्यामध्ये सापडतात.

इनसाइड’च्या सादरीकरणाच्या पद्धतीमुळे, चित्रीकरण आणि निर्मितीतील मर्यादांमुळे त्याच्या दृश्यचमत्कृतीपूर्ण ठरण्यासोबतच नानाविध भावनांचे चित्रीकरण करणे शक्य होते. या भावना आणि मनोवस्थांपैकी पुढील अवस्था ठळकपणे आणि वारंवार दिसतात.

बदलाल तर टिकाल: नियतकालिकांसमोर पॅनडेमिकनं उभं केलं आव्हान
कोरोनाकाळात नियतकालिकांच्या छपाईवर परिणाम झाला असून डिजिटल वितरणाकडे कल वाढल्याचं दिसून येतंय. आधीच परवडत नसलेला छपाई खर्च, तसंच वितरकांचं भरमसाठ कमिशन आणि बदललेल्या वाचनाच्या सवयी यामुळं छापील नियतकालिकांना उतरती कळा लागलीच होती. पॅनडेमिक आणि लॉकडाऊननं त्यांच्यासमोर अडचणींचा डोंगर उभा केला.

गेल्या ३ वर्षांपासून महाराष्ट्रातील वेगवेगळ्या जिल्ह्यातील गावांत, आदिवासी पाड्यांवर जाऊन गोष्टीच्या माध्यमातून लहान मुलांचं भावविश्व उलगडण्याचं काम प्रतीक्षा खासनीस, कल्पेश समेळ आणि त्यांचे काही सहकारी टायनी टेल्स (Tiny Tales) च्या माध्यमातून करत आहेत. नाटकाच्या माध्यमातून वेगवेगळ्या कथा लहान मुलांपर्यंत पोहोचवून त्याचं भावविश्व फुलवण्याचं काम ही मंडळी करतायत.

विरोधाभास हा चैतन्य ताम्हाणे दिग्दर्शित ‘द डिसायपल’मधील स्थायीभाव आहे. हा विरोधाभास अनेक प्रकारचा, अनेक कंगोरे असलेला आहे. इच्छा-आकांक्षा आणि त्या पूर्ण न झालेले आयुष्य, स्वप्न आणि वास्तव यांच्यातील तफावत, आदर्श जीवन आणि रुक्ष वास्तव यांच्यातील संघर्ष, भूतकाळ आणि वर्तमानाची केलेली विरोधाभास असणारी मांडणी – अशा बऱ्याचशा गोष्टी इथे अस्तित्त्वात आहेत. या सगळ्या विरोधाभासाच्या केंद्रस्थानी आहे कला आणि कलोपासना.

“किलिंग इव्ह” चा ढोबळमानाने जॉनर सांगायचा झाल्यास त्याला ब्लॅक कॉमेडी, क्राईम थ्रिलर असं म्हणता येईल. ही मालिका जेव्हा तुम्ही पाहायला सुरवात करता तेव्हा मात्र "च्यायला हे असं पण होऊ शकतं?" या कॅटेगरीमध्ये ही सिरीज कधी पोहचते हे आपल्याला कळत सुद्धा नाही. कथानक फारसं न उलगडता या सिरीजबद्दल लिहिणं अवघड आहे. पण सीरिजच्या कथेपेक्षा तिच्या एसेन्सबद्दल बोलणं जास्त इंट्रेस्टिंग आहे.

ओझार्क या मालिकेचा २०१७ मध्ये पहिला सिजन प्रदर्शित झाला. त्यावेळी सर्वांनीच ओझार्कची ब्रेकिंग बॅड सोबत तुलना केली. ही तुलना होणे अगदी साहजिक होते. पण ओझार्कचा पुढचा सिजन आला तसं हे प्रकरण ब्रेकिंग बॅड पेक्षा वेगळं आहे, त्याला एक स्वतंत्र अस्तित्व आहे हे सर्वांनी मान्य करायला सुरुवात केली.

एमी पुरस्कार, टेलिव्हिजनच्या दुनियेतील महत्त्वाचा निर्देशांक
एमी, ग्रॅमी, टोनी, ऑस्कर ही नावं ऐकायला अगदीच अनौपचारिक वाटतील. पण ही अमेरिकेतील अत्यंत महत्वाच्या चार अकादमीकडून दिल्या जाणाऱ्या सर्वात मानाच्या पुरस्कारांची नावं आहेत. नावं जरी अनौपचारिक दिसत असली. तरी ह्या संस्था (अकादमी) मात्र पूर्ण शिस्तीने आणि शक्य तितक्या पारदर्शकतेने काम करत आहेत. म्हणूनच आज भारतात होतो तितका सावळा गोंधळ अमेरिकन पुरस्कारांमध्ये होताना दिसत नाही.

अमेरिकन कलाकृती व्यक्तीपेक्षा घटनेला महत्त्व देतात, तर ब्रिटिश कलाकृती आपल्या पात्रांना अधिक महत्त्व बहाल करणाऱ्या असतात. त्यामुळे ब्रिटिश मालिकांमधील विनोदाच्या गडद छटा पात्रांच्या उपजत स्वभावातून निर्माण होणाऱ्या असतात. ही पात्रं अनेकदा आयुष्याकडे नीरस दृष्टिकोनातून पाहणारी, निराशावादी आणि तीक्ष्ण अशी विनोदबुद्धी असलेली असतात. ‘आफ्टर लाईफ’ आणि ‘फ्लीबॅग’ या दोन्हींमध्ये ब्रिटिश कलाकृतींची ही वैशिष्ट्यं दिसून येतात.

या चित्रत्रयीतील चित्रपटांची रचना अशी की, त्यांमध्ये पात्रांच्या विशिष्ट संचाला समोर ठेवत पारंपारिक तऱ्हेची कथा सांगितली जात नाही. या तिन्ही चित्रपटांमध्ये वेगवेगळ्या सेल्फ-कन्टेन्ड स्केचेसचा समावेश होतो. अगदी या चित्रत्रयीचा भाग नसलेल्या त्याच्या ‘अबाऊट एंडलेसनेस’ (२०१९) या चित्रपटाची रचनाही अशाच तऱ्हेची आहे. या चित्रपटांमध्ये क्वचित काहीएक पात्रं वारंवार समोर येतात, पण तितकंच.

‘द आयरिशमन’ हा रूढ अर्थांनी गँगस्टर फिल्म या प्रकारात मोडणारा चित्रपट नाही. त्याच्या केंद्रस्थानी गुन्हेगारी विश्व जरूर आहे, पण मार्टिन स्कॉर्सेसीचे इतर सिनेमे, मुख्यत्वे ‘मीन स्ट्रीट्स’ (१९७३), ‘गुडफेलाज’ (१९९०) किंवा ‘कसिनो’ (१९९५) यांत गुन्हेगारी विश्व ज्या पद्धतीने दिसते तशा चित्रणाचा इथे अभाव आहे.

सदर चित्रपट टिमुर वर्म्सच्या ‘लूक हूज बॅक’ याच नावाच्या प्रसिद्ध कादंबरीवर आधारलेला आहे. चित्रपटाची मध्यवर्ती संकल्पना अशी की काही अस्पष्ट, अतर्क्य कारणांमुळे अडॉल्फ हिटलर (ऑस्कर माझुकी) २०१४ येऊन पोचला आहे. दुसऱ्या महायुद्धात त्याचं बंकर ज्या ठिकाणी होतं, बर्लिनमधील त्याच ठिकाणी उठलेला हिटलर त्याचा बदललेला सभोवताल पाहतो. आणि मग सद्यपरिस्थितीत त्याचे आक्रमक आणि समस्यात्मक विचार घेऊन जगणाऱ्या हिटलरचा मागोवा चित्रपटात घेतला जातो.

‘यस्टर्डे’च्या केंद्रस्थानी असलेली संकल्पना अगदीच कल्पक नि रंजक आहे. ती अशी की चित्रपटाचा नायक वगळता जवळपास सगळं जग ‘बीटल्स’ या म्युजिक बँडचं अस्तित्त्व विसरून जातं. मग नायकाआसपासच्या कुणालाच या बँडची गाणी न आठवणं, नि नायकाने त्यांची गाणी स्वतःची म्हणून खपवणं सुरु होतं.

आपल्याकडे गाण्यांच्या माध्यमातून कथानक पुढे नेण्याचा सांगीतिका नामक प्रकार कधी त्याच्या सर्वोच्च शिखरावर पोचला असं म्हणताच येत नाही. याउलट अलीकडे तर गाणी ही लोकप्रिय कलाकृतीमध्ये लोकांच्या समाधानासाठी, किंवा व्यावसायिक कारणांसाठी अशा कथाबाह्य घटकांपायी अधिक येतात, ना की कथनाचं माध्यम म्हणून. मुळातच अनेक चित्रपटकर्त्यांना हा धोका पत्करावा वाटत नाही, तर जे पत्करतात त्यांचं अपयश (मग ते कलात्मक असो वा आर्थिक) आधीच दुर्मिळ असणाऱ्या या प्रकाराकरिता अधिक हानीकारक ठरतं.

एरवी ज्यांची भेट होणं कधीही शक्य होणार नाही अशा दोन लोकांची भेट होण्याचे चित्रपटांतील आणि अगदी खऱ्या आयुष्यातीलही प्रसंग आपल्याला नवीन नाहीत. मात्र, अशा भेटीनंतर तितक्याच अशक्यप्रायरीत्या होणारी नात्याची सुरुवात, आणि त्यानंतरच्या घटनाक्रमामध्ये उपजत सहजता टिकवून ठेवणं सोपं नसतं. अगदी खऱ्या आयुष्यातही आणि चित्रपट/मालिकांतही. गौरव पत्की लिखित आणि मंदार कुरुंदकर दिग्दर्शित ‘वन्स अ इयर’ या छोटेखानी मालिकेला नेमकं हेच साध्य करणं जमलेलं आहे.

जॉन कार्नीच्या तीन चित्रपटांविषयीच्या लेखत्रयीतील हा तिसरा आणि शेवटचा लेख. या तीन लेखांच्या माध्यमातून माझ्या प्रचंड आवडत्या चित्रपटकर्त्यांपैकी एक असलेल्या जॉन कार्नीविषयी, आणि त्याच्या या तीन चित्रपटांविषयी पुरेशा सविस्तरपणे बोलण्याचा, या नितांतसुंदर कलाकृतींची प्रशंसा करण्याचा उद्देश बऱ्यापैकी सफल झाला आहे असं वाटतं.

प्रेमाकडे अपारंपरिकरीत्या पाहण्याचा विशिष्ट असा दृष्टिकोन म्हणजे लेखक-दिग्दर्शक जॉन कार्नीचं एक महत्त्वाचं वैशिष्ट्य आहे. संगीत आणि योगायोगानं माणसं जोडली जातात. पण, कार्नी त्यांच्या भविष्याचा निकाल लावत नाही. तो त्या पात्रांना एक प्रकारच्या आशावादी वळणावर आणून सोडतो.

It does seem obvious or predictable of the plot where she tries to redeem herself by confronting to her wrongdoings. Perhaps that was too simple. It hardly had anything surprising that subverts itself in the next moment. But the simple structure is what helped the performances to shine even more.
