Heavy snowfall blankets Indo-China border, Hindustan Times
Fresh snowfall blanketed the higher reaches of the Indo-China border, including the Nathula Pass area, on Friday, Hindustan Times reports, bringing temperatures down sharply across Sikkim. The mercury dipped to sub-zero levels in several high-altitude regions, disrupting movement along key mountain routes. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy snowfall was recorded in and around Nathula, Kupup and Tsomgo (Changu) Lake since early morning, the report adds. The Hindu highlights on Delhi riots case hearing

The Supreme Court on Friday was told that the seriousness of the offence cannot be a determining factor when bail is sought on the ground of prolonged incarceration of an undertrial, The Hindu reports. A Bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria was hearing the bail pleas of activists Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Meeran Haider, Gulfisha Fatima and Shifa-ur-Rehman in the larger conspiracy case linked to the 2020 Delhi riots. The report says that the Bench will continue hearing the matter on Monday and has listed it top of the board. Appearing for the petitioners, senior advocates Kapil Sibal, A.M. Singhvi, and Siddharth Dave argued that the accused have spent over five years in custody while the trial is yet to commence. Read the full report here.
Israel bombs Gaza as Palestinians live ceasefire without peace, Al Jazeera
Israeli warplanes and artillery continued to hit Khan Younis in south Gaza and neighbourhoods of northern Gaza City despite Israel’s claim that it returned to the ceasefire two days ago, Al Jazeera reports. Gaza residents said they fear a return to Israel’s full-scale bombing, as they struggle to find food and shelter amid the supposed truce. The report says Hamas returned the bodies of two more deceased Israeli captives, which Israel says were positively identified. Read the full report here.
Mallikarjun Kharge invokes Sardar Patel to demand ban on RSS: NDTV report
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has reiterated that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) should be banned in the country, stating that even Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had banned the participation of government employees in RSS's activities. NDTV reports that the ban was lifted by the BJP government in 2024; it must be reinstated, he demanded. The BJP has slammed the Congress for invoking Patel to attack the RSS after "ignoring" his contributions for decades. The Congress government in Karnataka, the home state of Kharge, had been at loggerheads with the BJP lately over restricting government employees from participating in rallies of the RSS, the report adds. Hurricane Melissa death toll rises as aid struggles to reach parts of Jamaica, BBC reports

BBC reports that at least 19 people have died in Jamaica as a result of Hurricane Melissa, as search and rescue efforts continue and authorities try to get aid to hard-hit areas. The hurricane, one of the most powerful to strike the Caribbean, has also killed at least 30 people in Haiti, officials said. In Jamaica, "there are entire communities that seem to be marooned and areas that seem to be flattened," Dixon said, adding there are "devastating" scenes in western regions, the report says.
