PM meets top ministers after 2 key meetings over Pahalgam, NDTV

Two decision-making committees of the government met today to discuss India's response to Pakistan's state-sponsored terrorism, NDTV reports, after terrorists killed 26 tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. Tension is rising between the neighbours. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, held a second meeting today since the Pahalgam terror attack. The CCS in the first meeting took several steps aimed against Pakistan that included suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, the report says. Read the full report here.

 

Kuki-Zo student organisations urge people to observe shutdown on May 3 in parts of Manipur, Hindustan Times

 

Two Kuki-Zomi student organisations have urged people to observe a shutdown of all educational institutions and business establishments in parts of Manipur on May 3, Hindustan Times reports, to mark the second anniversary of the beginning of ethnic violence in the state. Zomi Students Federation and Kuki Students Organisation said May 3, 2025, marks the completion of two years of the outbreak of the ethnic strife and urged all "to observe the day in silence by closing all educational institutions and all business establishments". More than 250 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in the ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023, the report mentions. Read the full report here.

 

UK joins US air strikes on Houthi rebel sites in Yemen, Al Jazeera

Al Jazeera reports hat forces from the United States and the United Kingdom have carried out joint air strikes near Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, targeting what British authorities say were drone manufacturing facilities of the Houthi armed group. The UK on Wednesday morning offered a detailed explanation for launching the strike, unlike the US, which gave few details about hundreds of strikes it has conducted since beginning its renewed campaign on March 15. The strikes, which took place about 24km (15 miles) south of Sanaa overnight, hit buildings identified by UK intelligence as sites used to produce drones that have been used in attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, according to the British Ministry of Defence. India Today on top court on KYC norms for acid attack victims

The Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that digital access was a fundamental right while issuing directions to ease banking and e-governance services for acid attack survivors with visual challenges and those suffering from visual impairment, India Today reports. Directing the government to ensure that digital processes were "universally accessible to all", a bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan issued 20 directions to make the e-KYC process convenient. The report says that the top court's order came on petitions seeking directions to the Centre to frame new guidelines on the e-KYC process for acid attack survivors with severe eye disfigurement and facial damage. BBC reports, Trump celebrates 100 days in office

 

US President Donald Trump has celebrated the 100th day of his second term in office with a campaign-style speech, touting his achievements and targeting political foes, BBC reports. Hailing what he called a "revolution of common sense", he told a crowd of supporters in Michigan that he was using his presidency to deliver "profound change". The Republican mocked his Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden, and aimed fresh criticism at the US Federal Reserve's chairman, while dismissing polls that show his own popularity slipping, the report adds.
