6 killed, 3 trapped as under-construction bridge collapses in UP during storm, NDTV reports
At least six workers were killed after an under-construction bridge collapsed during a late-night storm in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district on Thursday, NDTV reports. The death count is feared to rise to eight. The bridge, which stretches from Morakandar to Kandaur village, was being built over the Betwa River. The incident took place late at night, around 2 am, when the work was underway at the bridge. Some workers were standing under a hydra machine amid rain, the report says. Read the full report here.
Monsoon concerns deepen as rainfall forecast falls to 90 pc of normal, Hindustan Times

Monsoon rainfall over the country is likely to be 90 percent long period average (LPA) this year, even lower than 92 percent that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast in April, Hindustan Times reports, while the country is projected to see above-normal heat wave days, the weather department said on Friday in its fresh projections. The IMD said on Friday that weak El Nino conditions are expected to develop in June, strengthening towards second half of the season. The fresh forecast of even lower than earlier predicted monsoon rains carries significant economic implications for India, the report says. Read the full report here.
Netanyahu says he has directed IDF to increase control of Gaza to 70 pc, BBC reports
BBC reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that he directed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to increase control of Gaza to 70 percent. Speaking at a conference on Thursday, he said: "We are currently squeezing Hamas; we now control 60 percent of the territory of the Strip - you know this. We were at 50, we moved to 60. My directive is to move to," he said before pausing as someone in the crowd said, "100". The expansion in control by Israel would contradict the terms of the Donald Trump-led ceasefire Israel and Hamas agreed to in October 2025. Read the full report here.
India Today: Siddaramaiah meets Rahul Gandhi with 'wishlist' day after stepping down as CM
A day after stepping down as Karnataka Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah on Friday met Rahul Gandhi and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi, presenting his list of demands to the party high command, including plum portfolios for his son Yathindra in the new DK Shivakumar-led cabinet. India Today reports according to its sources that Siddaramaiah handed over lists of names for Rajya Sabha and MLC appointments, along with his preferences for cabinet positions. UN says protecting children online an ‘urgent priority’: The Straits Times

Making the digital world safe for children is an urgent priority, The Straits Times reports, the United Nations said on Friday, adding that those responsible for online harm must be held to account. UN rights chief Volker Turk said states have to force tech giants to embed child safety. Harm to children, he said, was the direct result of business practices and design choices. The UN high commissioner for human rights called for tougher measures by countries and tech firms to make online platforms safe places for children, through better regulation, oversight and accountability.
