Priyanka Gandhi says, Centre patting its back, Doesn't take responsibility: NDTV

Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today launched a scathing attack on the government during the Operation Sindoor debate in Parliament, NDTV reports, questioning the intelligence failure that led to the Pahalgam terror attack and why a popular tourist destination was left completely unguarded. The government, Gandhi said, had been claiming that terrorism had ended in Kashmir and asking people to visit the Valley. Gandhi asked if the Prime Minister, the Defence Minister, the Home Minister and the NSA are not responsible for Indians' security, the report says. Read the full report here.

 

Jarange warns of fresh hunger strike on August 29, Hindustan Times

 

Hindustan Times reports that reservation activist Manoj Jarange on Tuesday accused the Maharashtra government of failing to fulfil its promises to the Maratha community and warned of launching a fresh hunger strike in Mumbai on August 29. Speaking to media persons at Antarwali Sarthi village in Jalna district, Jarange alleged that the government has deceived the Maratha community. He warned of undertaking a fresh hunger strike in Mumbai on August 29 and launching a march to the city. Read the full report here.

 

India Today: Heavy rain batters Delhi-NCR, red alert issued amid waterlogging

As heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday morning, a red alert was issued for most areas of the capital for a three-hour window from around 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, India Today reports. Waterlogging was reported in several parts of Delhi, slowing down traffic and affecting movement. Visuals showed commuters wading through rain-hit roads, highlighting the impact of the downpour across the city, the report says. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi recorded 8 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Tuesday. Read the full report here.

 

Police officer among four dead in shooting at New York City office building, BBC reports

A gunman wielding an assault-style rifle has stormed a skyscraper in the heart of New York, killing four people before shooting himself dead. BBC reports that the attacker, 27-year-old Shane Tamura of Las Vegas, walked into an office block on Manhattan's Park Avenue on Monday evening and opened fire in the lobby before taking a lift to the 33rd floor to continue his spree. Four people were killed including New York City police officer Didarul Islam, 36, who was working security at the time, the report adds. The three other victims have yet to be identified. Extreme weather turns Beijing into rain trap, The Straits Times

 

Thirty people have been killed in Beijing and over 80,000 evacuated, after almost a year’s worth of rain hit the capital in a matter of days, The Straits Times reports. The report says that this has prompted some experts to call the city a rain trap. The deaths were reported in Beijing’s mountainous northern districts near the Great Wall, with 28 in Miyun and two in Yanqing. State media did not specify when or how the deaths occurred, the report adds. Read the full report here.
