India, France sign ₹63,000 crore deal for 26 Rafale fighters, Hindustan Times
India and France on Monday signed a key deal to procure 26 naval variants of Rafale fighter jets at a cost of around ₹63,000 crore for the Indian Navy. Hindustan Times reports that India is procuring the jets from French defence major Dassault Aviation for deployment on board aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. The Cabinet Commitee on Security (CCS), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cleared the government-to-government deal for 22 single-seat Rafale M fighters and four twin-seat trainers this month, Hindustan Times had earlier reported. Indian Express on J-K assembly resolution on Pahalgam attack
At a special session of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly called in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian Express reports that legislators on both the treasury and opposition benches adopted a three-page resolution seeking “to resolutely defeat the nefarious designs of those who seek to disturb the communal harmony and progress of the nation and of J&K”. The resolution, moved by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, states that “such acts of terror (are) a direct assault on the ethos of Kashmiriyat, the values enshrined in our Constitution, and the spirit of unity, peace, and harmony that have long characterised Jammu & Kashmir and our Nation”, the report adds. North Korea confirms soldiers sent to fight with Russia against Ukraine, Al Jazeera
North Korea has confirmed for the first time that it sent troops to Russia to support Moscow’s war against Ukraine, and that its forces had contributed to taking back Russian territory held by Ukraine’s military in the Kursk region, Al Jazeera reports. In a statement provided to North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Monday, the Central Military Commission of the ruling Workers’ Party said that the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, had sent troops into combat alongside Russian forces as part of a mutual defence treaty between Moscow and Pyongyang. The KCNA quoted Kim as saying that soldiers were deployed to “annihilate and wipe out the Ukrainian neo-Nazi occupiers and liberate the Kursk area in cooperation with the Russian armed forces”, the report adds. NDTV on top court notice to Centre on sexually explicit content on OTT, social media
NDTV reports that the Supreme Court on Monday sought responses from the Centre and others on a plea seeking a direction to take appropriate steps to prohibit streaming of sexually explicit content on OTT and social media platforms. A bench of Justices BR Gavai and Augustine George Masih said the petition raises an important concern, and the issue was within the domain of the executive or the legislature. The bench told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, that the government should do something about the issue raised in the plea, the report says. Read the full report here.
Houthis say dozens of African migrants killed in US strike on Yemen, BBC reports
BBC reports that at least 68 African migrants have been killed in a US air strike on a detention centre in Houthi-controlled north-western Yemen, as per the armed group's TV channel. Al Masirah reported that another 47 migrants were injured, most of them critically, when the centre in Saada province was bombed. It posted graphic footage showing multiple bodies covered in the rubble of a destroyed building. There was no immediate comment from the US military, BBC says. But it came hours after US Central Command announced that its forces had hit more than 800 targets since US President Donald Trump ordered an intensification of the air campaign against the Houthis on March 15.
