4 dead after fire breaks out in chemical factory in Delhi's Rithala, NDTV

Four persons died in a fire that erupted in a chemical factory in Rithala in northwest Delhi, NDTV reports. The fire broke out at the factory in Rohini Sector-5 area on Tuesday, when Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg said 16 fire tenders were rushed to douse the blaze. The DFS chief said the incident was reported around 7.25 pm from a premises located near Rithala Metro Station, the report says. Read the full report here.

 

Indian Express: Axiom-4 Mission with India’s Shubhanshu Shukla, 3 others lifts off

 

The Axiom-4 Mission, with India’s Shubhanshu Shukla and three other astronauts on board, roared into space at noon on Wednesday, Indian Express reports, beginning a 28-hour journey to the International Space Station. In the process, Shukla became the second Indian to travel to space, more than 40 years after Rakesh Sharma travelled on a Soviet mission in 1984. The report also adds that two other astronauts on the mission, Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski from Poland and Tibor Kapu of Hungary, are also marking the return of their respective countries to space after more than four decades. Israel-Iran truce holds; Israeli forces kill 21 in Gaza: Al Jazeera

The ceasefire between Israel and Iran, announced by US President Donald Trump, appears to be holding, Al Jazeera reports, as Israeli forces continue their war on Gaza, killing at least 21 Palestinians since midnight. The White House refutes an intelligence report that says US bombings of Iran’s nuclear sites did not completely destroy the facilities and only set the programme back by a few months. Both Israel and Iran have claimed victory in the 12-day war, with Iranians holding celebrations in Tehran and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claiming a triumph that will stand for generations, the report adds. SC slams UP jail authorities for delay in releasing accused on bail: Hindustan Times

The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed the Uttar Pradesh jail authorities for the delay in releasing an accused, who was granted bail by the apex court on April 29 in a case under the state's anti-conversion law. Hindustan Times reports that a bench of Justices K V Viswanathan and N Kotiswar Singh directed the state government to pay ad hoc monetary compensation of ₹five lakh to the accused, who was released from district jail Ghaziabad on June 24. The bench said the officers must be sensitised about the importance of liberty guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution. Read the full report here.

 

Dozens hospitalised as heatwave descends on North America, BBC reports

 

BBC reports that dozens of people have been hospitalised for heat-related illnesses as the summer's first major heat wave descends on eastern North America. More than 150 people fell ill at an outdoor school graduation ceremony in Paterson, New Jersey on Monday, according to US media, as the city's mayor declared a state of emergency. In Washington DC, the report says, six people needed hospital treatment during a concert by South Korean band 'Stray Kids'. Heat warnings are in effect from the US Midwest to the East Coast.
