SC directs Samay Raina, others to apologise publicly for ridiculing disabled persons, Indian Express

The Supreme Court Monday directed India’s Got Latent host Samay Raina and four of his co-comedians to display their unconditional apology on their show or podcast for ridiculing those with disabilities, and rare genetic disorders. Indian Express reports that a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi said it will decide when it hears the matter next on the quantum of penalty to be paid by the comedians Raina, Vipun Goyal, Balraj Paramjeet Singh Ghai, Sonali Thakkar, also known as Sonali Aditya Desai and Nishant Jagdish Tanwar. Justice Kant said, The degree of repentance should be higher than the degree of offending, it’s like purging contempt”, the report adds. Read the full report here.

 

Journalists among 19 killed in Israeli attack in Gaza, Al Jazeera reports

 

At least four Palestinian journalists, including one from Al Jazeera, among 19 people killed in Israeli attack on southern Gaza hospital, Al Jazeera reports. Hossam al-Masri (Reuters news agency), Mohammed Salama (Al Jazeera), Mariam Abu Daqa (freelance) and Moaz Abu Taha (NBC) were killed in the attack together with rescue workers. The number of people killed from the Israeli strikes on Nasser Hospital has now risen to 19, as per the report. Read the full report here.

 

Delhi HC says, no need to disclose details of PM's degree: India Today

The Delhi High Court on Monday ruled that Delhi University is not obliged to disclose details of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's graduation degree, setting aside the Central Information Commissioner’s order directing its release. India Today reports that in 2016, the Central Information Commission (CIC) allowed inspection of records of all students who cleared the BA exam in 1978, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also said to have cleared the examination. The Delhi University challenged the CIC order, which was stayed on the first date of hearing in January 2017, the report says. Read the full report here.

 

Hindustan Times: Amit Shah tears into Rahul Gandhi over bill to sack jailed PM, CMs

Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday raised questions over Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's moral stance, Hindustan Times reports, asking whether it has changed after losing three consecutive elections. Referring to a 2013 incident, Shah said that Rahul Gandhi had 'torn' an ordinance brought by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to benefit RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, and questioned as to why the Congress leader was now opposing the 'criminal netas' bill. Shah was referring to an ordinance that gave convicted lawmakers a three-month relief to retain their seats, a move that was brought in after Lalu Prasad Yadav's conviction in the Fodder Scam case, the report adds. Trees down, homes flooded as Typhoon Kajiki batters Vietnam: The Straits Times

 

The Straits Times reports that Typhoon Kajiki brought torrential rains to Vietnam’s north central coast on Aug 25, felling trees and flooding homes, despite wind speeds tapering off from earlier in the day. As of 0900 GMT, Kajiki was on the coast of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, with wind speed easing to 118-133kmh from as strong as 166kmh, according to the country’s weather agency. State media reports said power in several areas in Ha Tinh province had been cut off, roofs were blown out and floating fishing farms were washed away. Vietnam had earlier shut down airports, closed schools and initiated mass evacuations as it prepared for the most powerful storm so far in 2025, the report mentions. Read the full report here.
