Massive fire at coaching centre in Lucknow, NDTV reports
At least 13 people were killed after a huge fire broke out at a building housing a coaching centre in the Aliganj area of northwest Lucknow on Monday. Several people were trapped after the fire erupted and some students jumped from the first floor, NDTV reports. The fire raged for over an hour and at least 13 bodies were brought out after it was brought under control. The report says that the building, located in a commercial area, has a pet shop and other stores apart from the coaching centre. Witnesses said several people jumped from the centre, which is on the first floor, and a video shows a man falling while attempting to escape. Read the full report here.
6 rebel MPs join Shiv Sena: Hindustan Times live updates

The six rebel MPs from Shiv Sena UBT have formally switched to the Eknath Shinde-led faction, Hindustan Times reports. They are now at the YB Chavan Centre in south Mumbai along with Maharashtra deputy CM Eknath Shinde. Shinde welcomed the six rebel Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs into his party, saying they had joined the Shiv Sena that follows the ideals of founder Bal Thackeray. He said all required procedures and formalities had been completed and the lawmakers were now officially part of the Shiv Sena, the report adds. Read the full report here.
BBC reports, schools close as more than half of France under red heat alerts
More than half of France's regions are under a red heat alert, BBC reports, as the country braces for sweltering temperatures in an intensifying heatwave. Highs of more than 40C are expected across parts of western France on Monday, with temperatures expected to hit 42C in Bordeaux, forecaster Météo-France said. Some 845 schools have been shut, while a further 1,800 are allowing pupils to finish classes early, the education ministry said. India Today: Bihar on the boil over encounter killing of Bharat Tiwari who made anti-government posts
India Today reports that the killing of 28-year-old Bharat Bhushan Tiwari in an encounter in Bihar's Bhojpur district has triggered a political storm, with questions being raised over the police action, protests erupting on the ground and even voices of concern emerging from within the ruling BJP. The Bihar government has now ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident, while the police have defended the encounter, claiming it was carried out in self-defence after Tiwari allegedly opened fire during an operation. Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced an independent judicial inquiry into the encounter under the supervision of a retired High Court judge. Read the full report here.
UK’s Starmer resigns as prime minister: Al Jazeera

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has resigned in a televised statement after coming under mounting pressure from his own Labour Party. Al Jazeera reporta that it follows the decisive by-election win by his rival, Andy Burnham, to claim a parliamentary seat in North West England. Polls say the 63-year-old Labour Party leader and former lawyer is deeply unpopular with voters after a series of policy missteps and scandals.
