Air India completes Boeing inspections after deadly Ahmedabad crash: Hindustan Times
Air India has successfully completed precautionary inspections on the locking mechanism of the Fuel Control Switch (FCS) across its Boeing 787 and Boeing 737 aircraft, Hindustan Times reports, following a tragic crash last month and in accordance with safety directives issued by India’s aviation regulator. “No issues were found with the said locking mechanism during the inspections,” an Air India spokesperson said, as per the report. IAF to phase out MiG-21 fighter jets in September 2025, Indian Express reports
The Russian-origin MiG-21 fighter jets are set to be phased out of service in September this year, as per the Indian Air Force plan to replace the remaining squadrons with the indigenously developed Tejas Mark-1A aircraft, Indian Express reports. In October 2023, the jets participated for the last time in the annual Air Force Day parade. A timeline had been finalised to phase out the Mig-21s then, the report says. Read the full report here.
Al Jazeera: Iran’s FM says nuclear enrichment will continue, but open to talks
Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi has said that Tehran cannot give up on its uranium enrichment programme, which was severely damaged by waves of US and Israeli air strikes last month, Al Jazeera reports. Araghchi said at the beginning of the interview that Iran is “open to talks” with the United States, but that they would not be direct talks “for the time being”. Tehran and Washington had been holding talks on the nuclear programme earlier this year, seven years after Trump pulled the US out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Zelensky says Ukraine, Russia to hold new peace talks in Turkey on July 23
Peace talks between Ukraine and Russia – the first in seven weeks – are planned for July 23 in Turkey, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky quoted a senior Kyiv official as saying. The Straits Times reports that Zelensky appealed earlier in the day for greater momentum in negotiations. Russia’s Tass news agency quoted a source in Turkey as saying the talks would take place on July 23. The RIA news agency, also quoting a source, said they would take place over two days, on July 24 and 25. Read the full report here.
World Health Organisation condemns Israeli attacks on facilities in Gaza, BBC reports
BBC reports that the World Health Organisation (WHO) says Israel's ground offensive in central Gaza has compromised its efforts to continue working, after its facilities came under attack. The UN agency accused Israeli forces of attacking a building housing its staff and their families in the city of Deir al-Balah on Monday and mistreating those sheltering there. Its main warehouse was also attacked and destroyed, the report says. The Israeli military has not yet commented. Read the full report here.
