Trump says Netanyahu must be ‘more responsible’ in Lebanon, Al Jazeera

 

US President Donald Trump said Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu “has to be more responsible” in Lebanon, adding “I’m not happy” with Israel’s invasion and handling of Hezbollah. “You don’t have to knock down an apartment house every time you’re looking for somebody because there’s a lot of people in those apartment houses – and they’re not all Hezbollah,” Trump said. The report added that Iran has warned that any Israeli attack on Lebanon or continued occupation of its ⁠territory from now on ⁠will constitute a violation of the interim agreement with the ⁠United States.  The Hindu: Lok Sabha Speaker invites Mamata faction to ‘present case’ amid TMC split

 

Amid a petition by the Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar-led faction of 20 rebel Trinamool Congress MPs to merge with the Nationalist Citizen Party of India (NCPI), Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday invited the group of TMC MPs led by Mamata Banerjee to “present their case”, The Hindu reports. The Speaker’s office was responding to TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s letter of June 10, the report says. The letter urged the Speaker not to recognise or grant separate status to any rebel TMC faction in the Lok Sabha. Read the full report here.

 

Eight dead after US Air Force B-52 bomber crashes in California, BBC reports

Eight people, including two Boeing employees, have been killed after a US Air Force B-52 bomber crashed immediately after take-off from Edwards Air Force Base in southern California, BBC reports. The incident occurred at 11:20 local time on Monday while the aircraft had been on a routine test mission. The crash sent a huge plume of black smoke into the air that could be seen for miles, the report says. Read the full report here.

 

Ex-AIADMK minister Vijayabaskar resigns as MLA: Hindustan Times

Hindustan Times reports that former AIADMK minister, dissident leader C Vijayabaskar on Tuesday resigned from his MLA post and submitted a letter to Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar. The letter of resignation was handwritten by Vijayabaskar, and it was in order and complies with the Assembly Rules and hence it was duly accepted, Prabhakar said in an official release. The report mentions that Vijayabaskar, a former minister who held the health portfolio in the previous AIADMK regime, represented Viralimalai in Pudukkottai District. Read the full report here.

 

The Straits Times: One dead, 4 injured after 6.3-magnitude earthquake in China’s Qinghai

 

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit the north-western Chinese province of Qinghai on Tuesday, killing at least one person and injuring four others, The Straits Times reports as per the state media. The quake struck a high-altitude area in the prefecture of Haixi in Qinghai with a depth of 10km at 5.06pm Beijing time, the China Earthquake Networks Centre said. State media said that all workers at coal mines near the epicentre have been evacuated and that the authorities are still assessing casualties and property damage, the report says.
