SC orders all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to be moved to shelters within 8 weeks: Hindustan Times
The Supreme Court has directed that all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR be picked up within eight weeks, Hindustan Times reports, and housed in dedicated dog shelters to be set up by the concerned authorities. In a significant order, the court instructed municipal bodies and other agencies to work in coordination to create adequate shelter facilities within the stipulated time frame, ensuring that the canines are removed from public spaces. Anas al-Sharif among five Al Jazeera staff killed by Israel in Gaza, Al Jazeera
Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif has been killed alongside four colleagues in a targeted Israeli attack on a tent housing journalists in Gaza City, Al Jazeera reports. Seven people were killed overall in the attack on the tent located outside the main gate of Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital late on Sunday evening. They include Al Jazeera correspondent Mohammed Qreiqeh and camera operators Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa. In a statement confirming the deliberate killing of al-Sharif, Israel’s military accused the journalist of heading a Hamas cell. However, the report adds as per Muhammed Shehada, an analyst at the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, there was “zero evidence” that al-Sharif took part in any hostilities. Read the full report here.
Mob vandalises tomb outside UP mausoleum, India Today
Members of a Hindu organisation vandalised a tomb in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur on Monday, claiming that the structure was built on a temple, India Today reports. The report says that the district administration has deployed heavy police and PAC forces across the area and erected barricades around the disputed site to prevent further unrest. The controversy centers around the structure located in Abu Nagar, Rediya locality of Sadar tehsil. Read the full report here.
Australia to recognise Palestinian state in September, BBC reports
Australia will recognise a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September, following similar moves by the UK, France and Canada, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said. BBC reports Albanese said Australia received commitments from the Palestinian Authority (PA) including to demilitarise, hold general elections and continue to recognise Israel's right to exist. Israel, under increasing pressure to end the war in Gaza, has said recognising a Palestinian state "rewards terrorism", the report adds. Read the full report here.
Indian Express on Rahul Gandhi among INDIA bloc MPs detained during march to EC
MPs, including LoP in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, were detained by police on Monday (Aug 11), as they took out a march from Parliament House to the Election Commission headquarters to protest against the Bihar SIR, Indian Express reports. “This fight is not political but for saving the Constitution,” Rahul Gandhi told reporters after being detained. “… the truth is before the entire country,” he added. The report adds that Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav was seen jumping over the police barricade, protesting with banners in hand as protesting opposition MPs were stopped by police barricades at Transport Bhawan while marching towards the Election Commission headquarters.
