Bihar cabinet nod for anganwadi honourarium hike, Hindustan Times

The Bihar cabinet on Tuesday gave its approval to a slew of proposals, including increasing the honourariums of anganwadi workers, creation of 3,303 posts of revenue staffers and the construction of marriage halls in all 8,053 panchayats of the state, Hindustan Times reports. The decisions assume significance with assembly polls due to be held in the state in a few months. With this hike, anganwadi workers will get Rs 9,000 per month, up from Rs 7,000, and helpers will receive Rs 4,000 instead of rs 4,500, the report says. Read the full report here.

 

Nepal prime minister resigns as anti-corruption protesters storm parliament building, BBC reports

 

Nepal's prime minister KP Sharma Oli has resigned as anti-corruption protests escalate, BBC reports. Protesters stormed the federal parliament building in the country's capital Kathmandu as fires raged and crowds gathered. Young people are taking to the streets, fuelled by anger over corruption and "nepo kids", the report adds. The unrest is the worst in decades and the ex-PM had little choice other than to step down, it further says. Read the full report here.

 

NDTV: Bomb threats at Delhi Secretariat, 2 medical colleges declared hoax

Delhi Chief Minister's Secretariat, Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) and University College of Medical Science (UCMS) on Tuesday morning received bomb threats, which were later declared hoax, officials said. NDTV reports that the police said the threats mentioned that RDX, having a one-km blast radius, were planted in the three sites. Immediate and coordinated action was taken under standard operating procedures (SOPs), with bomb detection and disposal teams (BDDT) pressed into service at the three sites. Thailand’s ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra jailed as court rules hospital stay unlawful

Thailand’s influential former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was sent to prison on Tuesday after the Supreme Court ruled his time in hospital detention was an attempt to avoid jail, a major blow for a powerful family that has dominated politics for two decades, The Straits Times reports. The polarising billionaire had spent only a few hours in prison upon his return from 15 years of self-exile in August 2023, before he was hospitalised after complaining of heart trouble and chest pains, prompting widespread scepticism and public outrage. His eight-year sentence for conflicts of interest and abuse of power was commuted to one year by the King and Thaksin was released on parole after just six months, the entirety of which he had spent in the VIP wing of a hospital, the report says. Indian Express live updates on Vice President election

 

Indian Express reports that counting of votes has begun after polling ended Tuesday at 5 pm. Counting agents of both candidates are present. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said on X that 100 per cent votes were cast by Opposition MPs in the vice presidential elections. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first to cast his vote in the day.
