NDTV reports, Goa Minister apologises amid protests after viral video

Amid protests by senior doctors of the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday apologised for his behaviour towards a doctor whose suspension he ordered in public view and said medical services should not be disrupted. NDTV reports that doctors of the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) are holding a protest against the minister, while the opposition Congress has demanded his ouster over the incident that occurred at the GMCH on Saturday. Rane is facing severe backlash from organisations, including the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD), which has threatened a strike. Probe on as 5 killed after passengers fall off moving train in Thane: Indian Express

 

At least five people died and seven others sustained injuries after several passengers fell off a moving train near Mumbra railway station in Thane on Monday morning, Indian Express reports, according to a spokesperson for the Central Railway. A probe has been launched to determine what caused the incident. The passengers reportedly fell around 9 am while the Kasara-bound train, which started from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), was passing through the Diva-Mumbra area. BBC on downtown Los Angeles protest:  Police order protesters to leave

Protests against immigration raids in Los Angeles continue for a third day, BBC reports, with police saying downtown LA is now an "unlawful assembly" area. Vehicles have been set on fire and there have been some reports of looting. A British photographer needed surgery after being shot with a sponge bullet, while an Australian reporter was shot with a non-lethal round while reporting, the report says. US President Donald Trump has already called in the National Guard, against the wishes of California's governor Gavin Newsom. Read the full report here.

 

Heat wave alert in Delhi for next 3 days, India Today reports

With temperatures rising across the national capital over the last few days, India Today reports that the Indian Meteorological Department, has issued an orange alert for the city. The weather department has warned that temperatures may go up to 45 degrees and heat waves may be witnessed over the next three days. Earlier, the department had issued a yellow warning regarding the heat waves, the report says. Meanwhile, humidity is also on the rise in Delhi, which witnessed an extremely uncomfortable night on Sunday, the report adds. Read the full report here.

 

Israel forces seize Gaza aid ship carrying Greta Thunberg, The Straits Times

 

Israeli forces have taken command of a charity vessel that had tried to break a naval blockade of the Gaza Strip and the boat with its crew of 12, The Straits Times reports, including activist Greta Thunberg, is now heading to a port in Israel. British-flagged yacht Madleen, operated by the pro-Palestinian Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), had departed from Sicily on June 6 and was aiming to deliver a symbolic amount of aid to Gaza later on June 9 to raise international awareness of the humanitarian crisis there. However, the report says, the boat was boarded during the night before it could reach shore, the FFC said on its Telegram account. Read the full report here.
