14 dead as ‘protest of Gen Z’ against Nepal social media ban turns violent, Hindustan Times

Hindustan Times reports that thousands of protesters on Monday hit the streets in Kathmandu to protest against the Nepal government's ban on social media platforms including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube. The protest turned violent after protesters clashed with the security forces, surrounded and entered Parliament in New Baneshwor after jumping barricades. The report says that security forces responded with tear gas and water cannons. Reports said at least 14 people have died in the clashes. Read the full report here.

 

Indian Express: SC directs poll panel to accept Aadhaar as 12th document in Bihar SIR 

 

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to accept Aadhaar as the twelfth document, in addition to the 11 it has already permitted to present for identification purposes, Indian Express reports, amid the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters list in Bihar. The bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi, however, made it clear that it will not be considered as proof of citizenship, and stated that the poll body will be entitled to assess the genuineness of the Aadhaar card. Shooting in occupied East Jerusalem kills six, Al Jazeera reports

Six people have been killed in a shooting attack in occupied East Jerusalem, Israeli authorities have said, Al Jazeera reports, as the Israeli military’s punishing assault on besieged Gaza rages. Paramedics said at least 12 other people were injured in the Monday morning attack, with six in “serious condition” with gunshot wounds following the shooting at Ramot Junction, Israel’s paramedic service, Magen David Adom. Several others were “lightly injured by glass” and treated at the scene, Magen David Adom said. Read the full report here.

 

3 men dead as bike hits bus in Maharashtra's Nashik, NDTV

Three men died on Monday in Nashik district in a collision between a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus and two-wheeler, a police official said. NDTV reports that the incident took place at Bhanwarpada Phata near Vanoli village on Taharabad-Satana road at 11 am. The deceased have been identified as Govinda Kalu Pawar, Vikas Jairam Mali and Roshan Dayaram Mali, all residents of Sukatman village. Read the full report here.

 

Gaza flotilla arrives in Tunisia, BBC reports

 

Huge crowds gathered at Tunisia's port on Sunday to welcome Greta Thunberg as her aid flotilla, bound for Gaza, docked at the port, BBC reports. The Swedish climate activist is travelling with 350 pro-Palestinian activists on boats stocked with aid that they are hoping to deliver to Palestinians in Gaza. Pictures from the Sidi Bou Said port show hordes of people surrounding the 22-year-old as she addressed the crowd. Read the full report here.
