Trump says may 'substantially' raise tariffs on India in next 24 hours: Hindustan Times

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday has said that he may 'substantially' raise tariffs on India in next 24 hours. Trump's latest statement comes a day after he vowed to raise tariffs on India due to its purchase of Russian oil and other military products. Uttarkashi’s Dharali village pummeled by flash flood and debris slide, Indian Express

 

Indian Express reports that a cloud burst triggered flash floods and a massive debris slide in Uttarkashi’s Dharali village on Tuesday. The forces of the Indian Army, the State Disaster Response Force, and the National Disaster Response Force, along with other rescue teams, are on their way to the spot. The region is situated 10 kilometres away from the popular tourist site, Harshil. As per the report, DM Arya said that there were reports of four deaths so far. Negi added that the administration team was collecting details from villagers to get an estimate of the population present in the area at the time. Read the full report here.

 

China reports 7,000 cases of chikungunya virus, BBC reports

More than 7,000 cases of a mosquito-borne virus have been reported across China's Guangdong province since July, BBC reports, prompting measures similar to those taken during the Covid-19 pandemic. In Foshan city, which has been hit the hardest, chikungunya patients must stay in hospital, where their beds will protected with mosquito nets. They can only be discharged after they test negative or at the end of a week-long stay. Although rare in China, chikungunya outbreaks are common in South and South East Asia and parts of Africa, the report adds. Read the full report here.

 

7-year-old girl injured in sudden attack by Pitbull in Chennai, NDTV

A seven-year-old girl was injured after a Pitbull suddenly attacked her in Tondiarpet here, police said on Tuesday. NDTV reports that the girl, who suffered injuries to her face and chin, has been admitted to the Stanley Government Hospital here where she has been advised plastic surgery by the doctors. Her condition was stable, the official said. The violent animal has been caught and sent to the Chennai Corporation's Animal Shelter, he added. Read the full report here.

 

Al Jazeera: Hezbollah supporters protest disarmament ahead of Lebanese government talks

 

Hezbollah supporters have gathered in the Lebanese capital to protest against the group’s disarmament ahead of a government cabinet meeting on the issue, Al Jazeera reports. The demonstrations occurred in Beirut on Monday night amid pressure by the United States on Lebanon to get Hezbollah to lay down its arms. Hezbollah emerged weakened from a war with Israel last year that eliminated most of the group’s leadership, killed thousands of its fighters, and left tens of thousands of its supporters displaced from their destroyed homes, the report adds.
