Court notice to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul in National Herald case: India Today
Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court issued a notice to former Congress Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other proposed accused to be heard on the question of cognisance of the chargesheet filed against them in the National Herald money laundering case, India Today reports. The court held that the deficiencies in the chargesheet have been cured and the present issue is whether a notice under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) should be issued. The judge said that Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and others who have been named by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in its chargesheet have a right to be heard at the time of cognisance, the report says. PM Modi commissions Vizhinjam port in Kerala, Indian Express
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Vizhinjam International Sea Port in Kerala in a major step towards putting the state on the global maritime map, Indian Express reports. Before inaugurating the port, PM Modi walked around the transshipment hub wearing a hard hat, taking stock of the facilities in the area. While speaking at the inauguration event, PM Modi said that the Vizhinjam seaport will bring economic stability to both Kerala and the nation, the report says. Read the full report here.
Hindustan Times: Nine-month-old leopard cub rescued from well near Tadoba Reserve
Hindustan Times reports that a nine-month-old female leopard cub was rescued from an agricultural well near Padazari village after a local farmer alerted the forest department on Thursday. The area is located within the Mul Buffer Range of the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR), some 150 kms from Nagpur in Maharashtra. Shende alerted the forest department, following which a team led by RFO Karekar, along with members of the Rapid Response Team of the TATR, carried out the rescue operation. Top Trump security official Waltz replaced with Rubio: The Straits Times
US President Donald Trump confirmed on Thursday that he was replacing his national security adviser Mike Waltz following a chat group leak, saying he would appoint him as ambassador to the United Nations instead. The Straits Times reports that in the first major Cabinet shake-up of Trump’s new term, the President said Secretary of State Marco Rubio would now also serve as his interim national security adviser following Waltz’s departure. Trump did not give a reason for the move but the report says that Waltz, a 51-year-old former special forces officer and Florida congressman, had been under pressure over the so-called “Signalgate” scandal since late March. Gaza activist ship 'attacked by drones' off coast of Malta, BBC reports
Activists who were planning to sail an aid ship to Gaza say it was struck by drones in international waters off the coast of Malta, BBC reports. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition said its ship The Conscience was targeted at 00:23 local time on Friday and issued an SOS signal right after the attack. The group said it had planned to sail to Gaza and "challenge Israel's illegal siege and blockade" there. The Maltese government said a fire onboard the ship was "brought under control overnight" and that no casualties had been reported, the report adds. It that said 12 crew and four activists were on board the boat, while the NGO said 30 activists had been on board. Read the full report here.
