Prices of Commercial LPG, 5-kg free trade LPG hiked, The Hindu

Indicative of continued stress on liquified petroleum gas (LPG) as the West Asia war continues for more than ninety days, price of 19-kg commercial LPG increased Rs 42 per cylinder June 1. The Hindu reports that in addition to the commercial cylinder, price of the 5-kg free trade LPG (FTL) also increased Rs 11. Other than the bottled hydrocarbon gas, in what could be a major relief to international operators, price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) for international flights and carriers have been reduced by about $400 per kilolitre – bringing them to about $1,100 per kilolitre. CJP founder to return to India, announces June 6 protest for education minister’s resignation: Hindustan Times

 

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Monday announced that he will return to India on June 6 and hold a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Hindustan Times reports. The protest will mark Dipke's first visit to India since launching the satirical political outfit, which has gained significant traction on social media. Citing the NEET paper leak controversy and issues surrounding recent CBSE examination results, Dipke alleged that more than one crore students have been failed by the system and left anxious about their future, the report adds. BBC reports, polls open in Ethiopia, but not everyone can vote

Polls have opened in Ethiopia's general election as conflict rages in parts of the country, BBC reports, meaning many people will not be able to vote. In fact, the whole northern region of Tigray, which has been trying to recover from a brutal civil war that ended in 2022, has been totally excluded from the poll. It is the seventh election since the downfall of the military regime in 1991 - an upheaval that led to Eritrea's secession two years later - and it takes place as Ethiopia's relations with its northern neighbour are once again dangerously fraught, the report says. NDTV on Suvendu Adhikari's cabinet expansion

Thirty-five BJP MLAs, including Swapan Dasgupta, Tapas Roy, and Shankar Ghosh, took oath as ministers on Monday as part of an expansion of the Suvendu Adhikari-led cabinet in West Bengal, NDTV reports. The report adds that Governor RN Ravi administered the oath to the legislators at a programme at the Lok Bhavan. The oath-taking ceremony was held three weeks after 55-year-old Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister on May 9. Read the full report here.

 

Al Jazeera: Cepeda, de la Espriella advance in Colombia’s presidential election

 

Far-right outsider Abelardo de la Espriella will face left-wing Senator Ivan Cepeda in the run-off for Colombia’s presidential election next month, Al Jazeera reports. After polls closed on Sunday, the two candidates quickly surged ahead in the vote tally, extinguishing the hopes of right-wing Senator Paloma Valencia, a former frontrunner. As of Sunday afternoon, the report adds, with 99 percent of the votes tallied, de la Espriella took the lead, with 43 percent of the ballots cast in his favour. Read the full report here.
